Demonstrating Against the Government Is Okay
Conservatives should be involved in public demonstrations against the government because it is their duty as American citizens. People around the world long for the freedoms the average American has, but most Americans do not take advantage of the freedoms granted them. Edmund Burke said it well when he stated, “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” Conservatives should realize it is up to them to stand on the side of the good and right to preserve the liberties they have for future posterity. Protecting the rights for future generations is the American citizen’s duty.
Conservative-leaning citizens should be involved in public demonstrations against the government because it is the most effective way to have their voice heard. Many conservative groups may differ in opinions concerning the effectiveness of public demonstrations. Public demonstrations do not necessarily mean picketing, rioting, boycotting, and other means; but they can be done peaceably through writing letters to members of Congress and attending rallies. If the voice of upstanding citizens is not heard, the only voice that will be heard is that of the other side whose opinions may be detrimental to the well-being of the United States of America.
Public demonstrations against the government should involve those who hold conservative values. Opportunities will always present themselves if conservatives will look for them and stay informed. Abraham Lincoln said, “To stand in silence when they should be protesting makes cowards out of men.” Conservatives must give the United States a fighting chance by unashamedly and actively standing up for her.
